Potty Training

We do assist parents in potty training once a child is showing signs of interest in being ready. Signs we look for are: the child's ability to remove their own clothing and they're communicating to the teacher they need to potty. Potty training can only be done with the parents’ cooperation at home. Children who are potty-training must be in pull-ups and clothing that they can successfully handle removing on their own. Several extra sets of clothes will also need to be available. For health purposes, our staff may not keep feces clothing. Clothing with feces on them will be disposed of. If a child has an accident in his/her clothes, according to DCD rules the clothes will not be washed out but will be placed in a bag to take home. Children will not transition into a preschool class unless they are fully potty-trained; therefore, it is important that parents work with the teacher to help prepare the child for this transition.
